Specialist services for roommates

Living with other people can be rewarding, affordable, and a great way to build connections and expand social circles. When conflict arises, it can feel like your home is no longer a pleasant or safe place to be, and it can become a very stressful experience.

Conflict is natural, especially when sharing a living space, however having a conversation isn't always easy. Sometimes the issue isn't one big disagreement, instead small frustrations have accumulated until communication becomes toxic.

Moving out of a shared home is a stressful experience under the best circumstances, and if there has been a conflict or relationship breakdown it can feel overwhelming.

There may be a bond to divide. Furniture may have been purchased together. Bills may still be outstanding. Maybe there are pets that everyone would like to maintain contact with. There may be disagreements about who owns what and who owes what. You may be trying to divide property and money while also navigating the emotional aftermath of the relationship.

Unlike other recognised living arrangements, such as de facto relationships, roommates are not given a clear process on how to work these things out - even where relationships or arrangements have existed for years.

Lamaro Dispute Resolution aims to help resolve these issues so that moving out isn't the only option, or, where moving out is the right path, to make that process as easy and stress-free as possible.

Services are available face to face or online.

Services may be offered at your home upon request, subject to availability. A neutral third space is preferred, and appropriate locations close to home will be offered.

Lamaro Dispute Resolution offers individually tailored services for people who are starting or ending a roommate agreement, or experiencing a communication breakdown during the arrangement.

These services include

  • A pre-move in facilitated conversation to form a roommate agreement

  • A move out facilitated conversation to create a property and/or financial agreement

  • Facilitated conversations offered during the arrangement

  • Mediation services where deemed appropriate.
